Kolkata Knight Riders dropped Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman in the face of the fire from some Indian extremists. In response to this incident, Bangladesh has decided not to play the upcoming T20 World Cup in India. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made the matter clear in a clear statement. In a statement issued on Sunday (January 3), the BCB has appealed to the ICC to move the venue of Bangladesh's match outside India.
In a press release, the BCB said, 'An emergency meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was held this afternoon (January 4). The meeting discussed the recent situation regarding the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India and Sri Lanka.'
'The board reviewed in detail the various issues that have occurred in the last 24 hours and expressed deep concern about the overall situation surrounding the participation of the Bangladesh national team in the matches to be held in India. Taking into account the full assessment of the current situation, the growing concerns about the safety and security of the Bangladesh team in India and the advice of the Bangladesh government, the Board of Directors has decided that the Bangladesh national team will not travel to India to participate in the tournament in the current circumstances.
'In light of this decision, the Bangladesh Cricket Board, as the tournament authority, has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to consider relocating all Bangladesh matches to a venue outside India.'
'The Board believes that this step is extremely necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of Bangladesh players, team officials, board members and all other stakeholders and to allow the team to participate in the tournament in a safe and appropriate environment. The Bangladesh Cricket Board hopes that the ICC will properly assess the situation and take a decision in this regard at the earliest.'
Regarding this, KKR bought left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman for a record price of Rs 9.2 crore in the auction held in Abu Dhabi in December last year. However, after pressure from some extremists and political leaders in the country, Kolkata released Mustafiz on the advice of BCCI. The matter has caused extreme reactions in Bangladesh.
The entire Mustafiz incident has affected Bangladesh's participation in the World Cup to be held in India on February 7. The BCB has been meeting on the matter since Saturday night. In the meantime, the BCB has also announced a 15-member squad for the World Cup.
