Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam met Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. The upcoming national elections and the overall political situation of the country were discussed in the meeting.

The meeting was held at the Jamaat Ameer's office in Bashundhara residential area of the capital on Sunday (January 11) afternoon. After the meeting, Nahid Islam posted a photo on his Facebook page announcing the meeting. At the same time, the information about the meeting was confirmed in a message sent by the NCP.

The NCP is currently preparing to participate in the next national elections as part of the 11-party electoral agreement led by Jamaat. Discussions are ongoing in the political arena that the NCP may get concessions in about 30 seats in this agreement. In this context, the meeting between Nahid Islam and the Jamaat Ameer is seen as significant by those concerned.

However, a responsible source in the NCP said that there was no discussion on specific seat deals in the meeting. Rather, there was an exchange of views on the overall political situation, electoral environment, the administration's leaning towards one side and future electoral strategies. The source further said that the party's Naye Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher is leading the discussions on seat deals on behalf of Jamaat.

Earlier on Saturday (January 10), Nahid Islam had told reporters that the final announcement of the number of seats in the Jamaat alliance could come by Sunday or next Monday.

Political sources concerned claim that Jamaat-e-Islami is planning to keep about 190 seats for itself and distribute the remaining seats among the partner parties. Of these, there is a possibility of giving 40 seats to the Islamic Movement Bangladesh, 30 to the NCP, 15 to the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, 7 to the Khelafat Majlis, 7 to the LDP, 3 to the AB Party and 2 to the BDP. However, no official announcement has been made on these matters yet.
