Despite losing the T20 series to Bangladesh, Afghanistan recently whitewashed Zimbabwe in a three-match T20 series on their own soil. Rashid Khan and Mohammad Naveed's success is due to the team's head coach Jonathan Trott. However, this English coach is going to cut ties with the Afghans.

The 44-year-old Trott has announced that he will end his relationship with Afghanistan after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Announcing his departure, he said, "It has been a privilege for me to work with the Afghanistan national team. It is inspiring to witness their passion, determination and hunger for success."

Afghanistan has improved a lot in cricket in recent times under Trott. Afghanistan was very close to the semi-finals in the last ODI World Cup under his coaching, and if Glenn Maxwell had not played a superhuman innings, they might have caught that too. And in 2024, Afghanistan will also play in the semi-finals for the first time in the T20 World Cup.

Although the Afghans have not achieved any major success, they are fighting eye to eye with the big teams by shaking off the small team label. Afghanistan has also won eye to eye against teams like England, New Zealand, and Australia. In his farewell message, the former English cricketer wished Afghan cricket success in the future.

Trott, 'I am proud of what we have achieved together, and I will always be a supporter of Afghan cricket. I wish the team and the Afghan people success in the future.'
