Australia is performing brilliantly in the ongoing Women's ODI World Cup. After securing a place in the semi-finals as the best team in the league stage, the most successful team of the tournament set a new world record when they played against India on Thursday (October 30).
Thanks to Aussie opener Phoebe Litchfield's century against India in the semi-finals, Australia now holds the record for the most 6 centuries in a single edition of the Women's ODI World Cup. With this record, they broke the 29-year-old record of English women.
Earlier, the record of the most 5 centuries in a single edition of the Women's ODI World Cup was held by England. After first setting this record in the 1993 World Cup, they also scored 5 centuries in the 2017 edition. This time, Australia broke England's record by scoring 1 more century.
Young opener Phoebe Litchfield scored a brilliant century in the second semi-final against India today (Thursday). She played a 93-ball 119 with the help of 17 fours and 3 sixes, which is the sixth century for Australia in the current World Cup.
In the league stage, three batsmen scored a total of 5 centuries for Australia. Out of these, captain Alyssa Healy and Ashley Gardner scored two centuries each (Healy's 142 and 113 not out; Gardner's 115 and 104 not out). The other century was scored by Beth Mooney (109). As a result of this consistent performance, Australia set a world record with Litchfield's century in the semi-final.
