Young goalkeeper dies aged 19 after suffering head injuries

Young goalkeeper Raul Ramirez Osorio has died after suffering a horrific head injury during a Spanish league match. The promising footballer's life has ended at the age of just 19. The Sun

Raul was seriously injured in a collision with an opposing forward during a Tercera Federation League match on Saturday (September 27). When he fell unconscious on the pitch, coach Rafa de Pena gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and a nursing student in the gallery tried to save him with CPR. He was later admitted to the Marques de Valdesillas Hospital in Santander, northern Spain, in a critical condition.

After battling for life in the ICU for two days, doctors confirmed his death on Monday (September 29).

It is known that Raul collided with an opposing player while trying to catch a cross ball in the 60th minute of the match. He fainted there. The situation became more complicated when his heart stopped again on the way to the hospital. The match was suspended immediately after the incident.

Raul's club Colindres said in a statement, "Our goalkeeper Raul Ramirez has suffered serious injuries. We are with him and his family."

The Cantabrian Football Federation said that Raul's brain was severely damaged in the collision and he was later declared brain dead. His organs are being donated at the request of the family. The federation has declared three days of mourning and decided to observe a minute of silence in the next round of matches.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid expressed its condolences on social media after Raul's death, writing, "Real Madrid and its president express their deepest condolences on the death of 19-year-old Raul Ramirez. Our condolences go out to his family and the club."

La Liga also expressed its condolences, writing, "Our deepest sympathies go out to Raul's family, friends and teammates. We pray for his soul to rest in peace."

Earlier this month, 34-year-old goalkeeper Antonio Edson dos Santos Sousa, nicknamed "Pixe," collapsed on the field in Brazil shortly after saving a penalty.

The death has sparked grief and concern across the football world.
