Despite winning the Asia Cup by defeating Pakistan in the final, India refused to accept the trophy from the hands of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi at the award ceremony. Such an unpleasant incident has never happened before in the history of cricket. Even after two days have passed since this incident, the Indian team has not received the trophy.

ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi is also the PCB chairman and Pakistan's home minister. Naqvi was angry at the Indian team's behavior for refusing to accept the award from him.

Indian team captain Suryakumar Yadav has now opened up about the issue of not accepting the trophy. He directly accused Mohsin Naqvi of 'running away' with the trophy. In an interview given to the Indian Express, Suryakumar said, 'We did not sit with the dressing room door closed, nor did we keep anyone waiting. They ran away with the trophy. That's what I saw. I don't know, some people were videotaping us. We were standing there, we didn't go inside.'

Suryakumar has rubbished the rumours that India did not take the trophy on the instructions of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He clearly said, 'First of all, let me make it clear that during the entire tournament, neither the government nor the BCCI told us that if someone gives us the trophy, we will not take it. We took that decision ourselves on the field.'

Then, describing the incident that happened on the stage, Suryakumar said, 'They (ACC officials) were standing on the stage at that time, and we were below. All I saw was that they were talking among themselves on the stage. I don't know what they were talking about. In the meantime, some people from the gallery started giving duas. Then I saw one of their representatives leaving with the trophy.'
