Cardiologist Dr. Arvind Dambalkar says that modern lifestyle is one of the reasons for high blood pressure.

Once, high blood pressure was thought to be a disease of parents and grandparents. But that idea is now changing completely. In various hospitals in India, young people in their 20s and 30s are now regularly being diagnosed with blood pressure readings that would have been a cause for concern even a few years ago. The most frightening thing is that many feel completely healthy. There is no dizziness, no palpitations, no body aches. Only the numbers indicate danger.

Why is high blood pressure increasing at a young age

Cardiologist Dr. Arvind Dambalkar says that modern lifestyle is one of the reasons for high blood pressure. The diet of today's youth is full of adulterated food, processed food, excess sugar and saturated fat. Along with this, there are hours of sitting, less sleep, excessive screen time, stress, smoking and alcohol habits. The combined effect of all these is increasing obesity in the body, and as a result, blood pressure is increasing.

Many people go to the gym four days a week, looking fit from the outside. But inside, the body is running on caffeine, packaged food and five hours of sleep. Blood pressure does not work based on age, it is what you do with your body every day that is the judge.

High blood pressure is called the 'silent killer'. Because it gradually damages the blood vessels, heart and kidneys of the body, but no symptoms are seen in the beginning. Photo: Made with AI

Why is high blood pressure called the 'silent killer'

High blood pressure is called the 'silent killer'. Because it gradually damages the body's blood vessels, heart and kidneys, but there are no symptoms in the beginning. According to Dr. Arvind, the body often adapts to the extra pressure. As a result, even if a person feels completely fit and energetic, blood pressure can reach dangerous levels, sometimes up to 200. Then, a major danger like a stroke or heart attack can suddenly arise.

According to experts, blood pressure should be measured at least once a year after the age of 30. Those who have a family history of high blood pressure, or those who are overweight need to be more careful. Neglecting high blood pressure can have a serious impact on the heart, brain, kidneys, eyes and even memory in the future. But if caught in time, it is possible to reduce the major risks to a great extent through lifestyle changes, regular monitoring and treatment.

It is necessary to break the idea that I am young, nothing will happen to me. It is wrong to think that being young means you will not get high blood pressure. On the contrary, if you are careful now, you can avoid big dangers in the future.
