Why did the police question Shilpa Shetty for 8 hours?

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty was questioned for 8 hours by the Economic Offences Wing of Mumbai Police.

The actress was questioned in a Rs 60 crore fraud case against her husband Raj Kundra on Monday, Indian media outlet India.com reported.

According to police sources in the country, the investigation team went to Shilpa's house and questioned her for about four and a half hours. During this time, her full statement was recorded.

A police officer said that the actress fully cooperated in the interrogation and gave detailed information about the bank account transactions of the advertising agency.

During the investigation, Shilpa handed over some important financial documents and contracts to the police. Which are now at the stage of verification. A source said that the actress explained her role in managing the company's finances and clarified the method of using the funds.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police has already recorded the statement of Shilpa's husband Raj Kundra in the case. Last September, Mumbai Police said that an investigation is underway against the actress and her husband for allegedly defrauding them of Rs 60 crore. Raj Kundra was summoned for questioning. He was questioned for about five hours but did not answer several important questions. Therefore, he may be summoned again next week.

Businessman Deepak Kothari has alleged that the couple took more than Rs 60 crore from him between 2015 and 2023 in the name of expanding his business; but it was used for personal expenses.

According to the report, Raj Kundra claimed to the police that a part of the money was given as remuneration to actresses Bipasha Basu and Neha Dhupia.

Investigators have already received information about direct money transfers to the bank accounts of four actresses including Shilpa Shetty, Bipasha Basu, Neha Dhupia. In addition, some transactions related to Balaji Entertainment are also being investigated.

The police are now verifying the documents submitted by Shilpa. Raj Kundra may be called for questioning again. Mumbai Police said that the main focus of the investigation is now to find out the misuse of company funds and the motive behind the money transfer.
