Preity Zinta in court against Google-Meta

Most of the actors and actresses of the Bollywood entertainment industry have approached the court against the spread of deepfake videos and distorted images. This time, actress Preity Zinta has walked that path. The actress has complained to the Mumbai High Court that her face and name are being used without any permission. And several deepfake videos and images created using AI are being spread on social media.

In her petition to the court, Preity Zinta said that all such content should be immediately deleted. Not only that, but the actress has also requested to ensure that no such images are used without permission in the future.

In the case filed by Preity Zinta, the names of several organizations, online platforms and some specific individuals including Google, Meta have been mentioned. The hearing of the case was held on Friday (July 3).

The bench of Justice Madhav Jamdar has ordered a take-down mechanism in the hearing of the case. The court has ordered that all videos and pictures of actress Preity Zinta be removed as soon as possible. The next hearing in the case will be held on Monday (July 6).

Preity's case comes after several other celebrities approached the Bombay High Court against the unauthorized use of their names, pictures and identities on social media. Actors Kartik Aaryan, Shatrughan Sinha, Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, singers Asha Bhosle and Arijit Singh have all sought similar legal protection in recent years.

Before moving the court, Preity was allowed to file a case under Section XII of the Letters Patent. This provision empowers the Bombay High Court to hear a case - even if only a part of the dispute falls within its jurisdiction.

It is worth noting that earlier on June 16, Justice Abhay Ahuja allowed the case to proceed after hearing the legal team of actress Preity Zinta. They argue that while the alleged content may have been uploaded or hosted from different parts of the world, its impact on his reputation and reputation is primarily felt in Mumbai, where he resides.
