The court has arrested former Awami League MP Afzal Hossain, who has been banned from Kishoreganj-5 constituency in a case under the Explosives Act of Shahbagh Police Station in the capital.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate issued this order on Monday (July 6) in response to the application of the investigation officer. The investigation officer presented the accused in court and requested to show him arrested.

The investigation officer mentioned in the application submitted to the court that the initial investigation has found primary evidence of the involvement of the accused Afzal Hossain in the incident. Therefore, it is necessary to show him arrested for the sake of a fair investigation.

The case alleges that a fire in the capital's Bangabazar Market on April 4, 2023 caused a loss of about Tk 500 crore. In this incident, Md. Kamal Hossain Ripon filed a case as the plaintiff. The case names 17 people including Afzal Hossain and names 20-30 other unidentified people as accused.
