Actor Alvi’s wife commits suicide

'I don't care if you die, do whatever you want'. Popular small screen actor Zaher Alvi often made such provocative remarks to his wife at the instigation of his mother.

It has been alleged that his wife Afra Ibnat Iqra committed suicide after being incited by Alvi's provocative remarks.

On Sunday, the deceased Iqra's father Kabir Hayat Khan filed a case of abetment to suicide at the capital's Pallabi Police Station. The accused in the case are actor Niamat Ullah Bhuiyan alias Zaher Alvi and his mother Nasrin Sultana Shiuli.

Last Saturday, around 1:30 pm, the police recovered the body of actor Zaher Alvi's wife from a house on Road No. 17, Avenue-2, Mirpur DOHS area.

In the case statement, the victim's father mentioned that his daughter Iqra married the main accused in the case, Zaher Alvi, in 2013 for love. They have a 5-year-old son in their married life. After the marriage, Zaher Alvi used to mentally torture his wife Iqra at the instigation of her mother Shiuli. When the victim's father found out about the marriage, he tried to resolve it through Shiuli, but Shiuli did not listen to their words.

About 2 years ago, Iqra came to know that her husband Alvi was having an affair with an unknown woman. This incident created a rift between the husband and wife. At one stage, Zaher Alvi and her mother Shiuli instigated Iqra to leave their lives in various ways. They even abused, insulted and made various provocative remarks to the victim, mentally upsetting her.

Alvi often told his wife, 'Even if you die, I don't care. Do whatever you want.’ At one point, Iqra, unable to bear the insults, neglect and provocative remarks of the accused in the case, chose suicide.

Pallabi Police Station OC AKM Alamgir Jahan said that a case has been filed on charges of abetment to suicide. The accused are absconding.
