US President Donald Trump has claimed that commercial shipping is operating normally despite Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz 'until further notice'.

In an interview with US media NBC's 'Meet the Press', Trump said that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial shipping, despite the ongoing exchange of fire between the US and Iran.

Earlier, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared the Strait of Hormuz closed 'until further notice'. However, shortly after this, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the route is open to all ships legally passing through this international waterway and that shipping is operating normally.

In a message on the social media X, CENTCOM said, 'Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping continues to move through this waterway.

CENTCOM also said that US forces are deployed where necessary to ensure freedom of navigation in critical maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important energy transport routes. Any disruption in this route could have a major impact on global oil and fuel supplies.
