Thailand has started talks to buy crude oil from Russia to deal with the instability in the global oil market due to the ongoing US-Israel and Iran wars.

Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Poongket also confirmed the trade talks between Bangkok and Moscow. In a recent interview with 'The Nation' newspaper, he said that the Thai government has already contacted Russia and Russia has also expressed positive interest in selling oil to them.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul believes that all efforts should be made to procure oil from alternative sources to ensure the country's energy security. Although Thailand currently has about 95 to 100 days of fuel oil reserves, the ongoing war has created great uncertainty in long-term supply. To avoid this risk, the country is walking on the path of agreements with major oil producing countries like Russia.

On the other hand, Bangkok is trying to provide relief to the common people despite the increase in oil prices in the international market. Thailand's Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn told Reuters that the government will try its best to limit the price of diesel in the domestic market to 33 baht or $ 1.02 per liter. The main goal of the Thai government is now to avoid additional pressure on ordinary citizens during this difficult time of global energy crisis.
