The government will buy a total of 135,075,000 liters of soybean oil from Thailand. The cost of this has been estimated at Tk 178 crore 47 lakh. Each liter will cost Tk 131.47 paisa.
On Tuesday (January 6), the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement held under the chairmanship of Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed approved the proposal in this regard.
It is learned that the government will buy soybean oil from Thailand's Prime Crop World Company Limited, a bidding company recommended internationally through direct purchase method based on the proposal of the Ministry of Commerce.
In the meeting, the Advisory Council Committee also approved separate proposals to import not only soybean oil, but also lentils, fertilizers and fuel oil to meet the country's urgent needs. Instructions have been given to start the process of bringing these products to the country quickly to keep the supply chain of the trade and agriculture sectors operational.
After the meeting, Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said that transparency and speed are being given top priority in the import of goods. This initiative will have a positive impact on the current market situation of edible oil and there will be no fear of any shortage during Ramadan or the coming months.
