New York: An extraordinary iftar celebration brought together Christians, Jews, and Muslims on Monday at PS 179 in the Church McDonald area of Kensington, Brooklyn. The event, organized by New York City Council Member Shahana Hanif representing the 39th District, transformed into a remarkable gathering of people from all faiths breaking fast together.
The iftar celebration transformed into a beautiful gathering of unity, bringing together people from diverse faiths and backgrounds. Not only adults, but children from various religious communities also joyfully participated in this celebration of togetherness.
Attendees enthusiastically praised the initiative, saying, “This is what America truly stands for people of all faiths and backgrounds living together with love and respect for one another. Such gatherings also teach our next generation the values of tolerance and harmony.”
Shahana Hanif, born to Bangladeshi immigrant parents in Brooklyn, is the first Muslim woman and first Bangladeshi American elected to the New York City Council. She champions the rights of working families, immigrants, and marginalized communities, and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Progressive Caucus.
Monday’s iftar celebration reflects Hanif’s long-held belief that diversity is New York’s strength, and bringing together people of all faiths and backgrounds embodies true American values
