BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman visited the grave of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayeed, who was killed in the July movement in Zafarpara, Pirganj, Rangpur.
On Friday (January 30) evening, he reached Babanpur village of the upazila and visited the grave and met the family members of the martyr and inquired about him. At that time, he paid tribute to martyr Abu Sayeed and expressed condolences to the family.
Security was tightened around Tarique Rahman's arrival in Pirganj. Police, intelligence team and plainclothes members were seen on alert. At the same time, the villagers, including Abu Sayeed's family members, were eagerly waiting.
Meanwhile, after the visit, Tarique Rahman will attend an election rally at the Collectorate Eidgah ground in Rangpur city. Party leaders believe that this visit will further strengthen the BNP's mass movement in the northern region in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections.
Incidentally, Abu Sayeed was shot dead at the park intersection adjacent to Begum Rokeya University on July 16, 2024, during the quota reform movement. He was buried in his village home the next day. Abu Sayeed was a coordinator of the July Movement.
