Baby’s comment sparks speculation on whether Rahul will be the Prime Minister if the opposition wins

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi may stake claim to the post of Prime Minister if the opposition parties win a majority in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, hinted M.A. Baby, All India General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

However, the CPI(M) does not want to take any decision on who will be the Prime Minister right now. Baby said that the opposition will decide on this issue through discussions after winning the elections. He also commented that it is normal for the opposition leader to demand the post of Prime Minister. 

According to Baby, the opposition has the maturity to decide who will lead the government if they get a majority. Therefore, they do not want to speculate on this before the election results are announced.

In this context, Baby also brought up the incident of Jyoti Basu in 1996. Jyoti Basu's name came up as the Prime Minister when the United Front government was formed. But the CPI(M) Central Committee did not agree to the proposal to make her the Prime Minister. 

Baby said that learning from that experience, it is not right to make any demands for the post of Prime Minister in advance. He said that the CPIM does not want to discuss any hypothetical situation right now. The main goal of the opposition at the moment should be to achieve a majority in the elections.

Meanwhile, the name of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam chief Thalapathy Vijay has also been mooted as a possible face for the post of Prime Minister. 

In this context, Baby said that he knows that Vijay's name has been proposed as the Prime Minister in Tamil Nadu. However, that is a separate discussion, and he does not want to enter into this debate. Baby's comments have sparked fresh political speculation about the future leadership of the opposition alliance surrounding Rahul Gandhi.
