Putin congratulates President Mirza Fakhrul

Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on assuming office as the 23rd President of Bangladesh.

Russian Ambassador to Dhaka Alexander Khojin met with Director General of the Eastern Europe and CIS Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs SM Mahbubul Alam on Thursday (August 27). During the meeting, he handed over a congratulatory letter sent by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A message from the Russian Embassy said that President Vladimir Putin has extended his greetings and congratulations to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his assumption of office as the President of Bangladesh.


Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was sworn in as the 23rd President of Bangladesh on August 21. He was elected in the presidential election held in the National Parliament on August 20 with 255 votes. His rival, Col. (retd.) Oli Ahmed, received 88 votes.

Mirza Fakhrul has been congratulated by various countries and foreign missions after taking office as President. Before Russia, China and the United States also congratulated him. Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed hope for further deepening relations between the two countries.
