Modi assures Balendra Shah of support over phone

The death toll from flash floods in Nepal has risen to 31. Hundreds of people are missing. CCTV footage shows a huge wall of mud and silt rolling down, destroying everything. People are running to escape.

But within seconds, a huge wall of black soil and silt covered everything. Declaring the incident a disaster, the Rasua district administrator said they feared a massive loss of life. 

Roads, bridges, and several power projects were completely destroyed in the flash floods on Wednesday (August 26).

Nepal's tourism board said 384 tourists went missing after the floods. Of them, 291 were foreigners and 93 were Nepalese. According to the tourism board, at least 105 of the missing people are Indian tourists. There are also 12 tourists from the United Kingdom.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured all possible humanitarian assistance to Nepal in the wake of the devastating floods. He expressed his solidarity with Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah in a phone call on Wednesday (August 26).

"Our teams are working closely together to provide all possible assistance to India in any relief and rescue operations that may be required," Modi said.

The Indian Prime Minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and damage caused by the floods and expressed his condolences to the affected families.
