Indian Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal

In response to media queries regarding the news of the protest in front of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, Indian Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that misleading propaganda is being spread in some media outlets regarding the incident. This information was given on the website of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday (December 21).

Randhir Jaiswal said that on Saturday (December 20), about 20 to 25 youth gathered in front of the Bangladesh High Commission and raised slogans protesting the brutal murder of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh and demanding protection of minorities in Bangladesh. However, there was no attempt to breach the security cordon of the High Commission or any security situation was created. The Indian government spokesperson said that the police on duty at the scene dispersed the protesters within a few minutes. Visible evidence in this regard is publicly available. Randhir Jaiswal said that India is committed to ensuring the security of all foreign missions and diplomatic establishments located in Indian territory as per the Vienna Convention.

Stating that India is closely monitoring the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, Jaiswal said that Indian officials are in regular contact with the Bangladesh authorities and India's deep concern has been conveyed to them over the attacks on minorities. It has also been called for the speedy prosecution of those involved in the murder of Dipu Chandra Das.

It is worth noting that a group of extremist Hindus staged a protest at the Bangladesh High Commission premises in New Delhi on Saturday (December 20) at around 9 pm local time. There, they crossed all the security cordons and appeared in front of the main gate of Bangladesh House. They raised various anti-Bangladesh slogans and threatened to kill Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah.
