Construction of the Jeddah Tower, which is set to surpass the Burj Khalifa to become the world's tallest building, has been progressing rapidly since it resumed in January 2025. The building has already reached about 80 floors, with a new floor being added every 3 to 4 days.
According to a report by Gulf News, the project is scheduled to be completed by 2028. When completed, the Jeddah Tower will be more than 1,000 meters tall, which is about 172 to 180 meters higher than the 828-meter-high Burj Khalifa, currently known as the world's tallest building.
The Jeddah Tower, once known as the 'Kingdom Tower', is scheduled to be completed by 2028. The project is being implemented as part of Saudi Arabia's initiative to snatch the title of the world's tallest building from Dubai's Burj Khalifa. When completed, it will become the first building in the world to reach a height of one kilometer.
There are also plans to build a two-kilometer-high building, called the Rise Tower. Features of Jeddah Tower The Jeddah Tower, which is set to become the world's tallest building, is a key part of Saudi Arabia's 'Vision 2030'.
Construction resumed in January 2025 and the building has already reached nearly 80 floors. Located in Jeddah Economic City, the tower will be over 160 floors high and is being built for mixed-use. It will feature a Four Seasons Hotel, luxury residences, serviced apartments and high-end office space. One of its most striking features is a sky-high observation deck, from which you can enjoy sweeping views of the Red Sea and the city below.
Designed by Adrian Smith, co-designer of the Burj Khalifa, the tower incorporates a variety of sustainable technologies, including advanced air-conditioning systems suited to the desert climate and energy-saving technologies. The tower will feature high-speed elevators capable of traveling at speeds of more than 10 meters per second.
A marvel of modern engineering and architecture, the Burj Khalifa currently holds multiple world records, including the tallest building in the world, the tallest free-standing structure, and the building with the most floors. It has 163 floors, including observation decks on the 124th, 125th, and 148th floors, offering breathtaking views of Dubai.
Visitors can enjoy gourmet cuisine at the world's highest restaurant, At.mosphere, located on the 122nd floor. The building's exterior features more than 26,000 glass panels, wrapped in a cladding system that can withstand Dubai's intense heat.
Construction of the Burj Khalifa began in 2004 and took about six years to complete. More than 12,000 workers and engineers worked on it. The total cost of the project was about $1.5 billion, making it one of the most expensive buildings in history.
