The Iranian embassy in South Africa has claimed that White House press secretary Caroline Levitt resigned over differences with US President Donald Trump. However, the White House has rejected this claim as 'false and baseless'.
In a report, Pakistani media outlet Samaa TV said that the Iranian embassy in South Africa made this claim on social media while commenting on various reports about Levitt's resignation. A photo of Levitt was also published in the same post.
The Iranian embassy claims that Trump has put other officials at risk despite ensuring his own safety in the face of security threats. This also indicates that Levitt has lost trust in Trump.
It is believed that the Iranian post refers to the news that Trump was secretly evacuated in a small military plane while returning from Turkey. However, the White House has rejected the Iranian embassy's claim as 'outright false'.
US officials have said Levitt was not with Trump during the trip to Turkey, and have denied reports that he was involved in the secret move to another plane.
Trump confirmed Levitt's resignation. However, the Iranian embassy has not provided any independent evidence to support the claim that his resignation was motivated by personal or political differences with Trump.
