More than 150 Israeli settlers enter Al-Aqsa compound

More than 150 Israeli settlers entered the historic Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem under the guard of Israeli police and performed religious rituals and prayers.

According to international and historical agreements dating back to 1967, non-Muslims are only allowed to enter this holy site, but conducting any kind of religious prayer is completely prohibited.

After capturing East Jerusalem in the 1967 war, Israel made the area part of its territory, although the international community has never recognized this move. Al-Aqsa compound is a very important holy site for people of the world's three major Abrahamic religions.

For the global Muslim community, it is the third holiest site in Islam, within which the historic Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque are located. According to Islamic religious beliefs, it was from here that the Prophet (peace be upon him) went on his ascension. On the other hand, in Judaism this place is called the 'Temple Mount' and is considered the holiest pilgrimage site for them too due to the historical location of their ancient synagogue.
