Former US President Barack Obama has been accused by current President Donald Trump of paying Iran planeloads of money. Speaking to reporters at the G7 summit in France, Trump claimed that the Obama administration paid Iran $1.7 billion in cash in 2015 as part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) deal.
Trump said, "$1.7 billion in cash was sent from the bank to Iran on a Boeing 757 plane for the JCPOA deal that Obama made. And they were standing in front of the plane. I have a picture of it."
Accusing Obama, he added, "He tried to get away with bribery. I didn't try to do that." The US president asked reporters, "You know what the Iranians did?" They laughed at Obama and abused him.’
The JCPOA agreement, signed by Iran with the US, UK, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union in 2015, aimed to ease international sanctions on Tehran in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme. However, Donald Trump withdrew the US from the JCPOA in 2018 after first coming to power.
