Cristiano Ronaldo is preparing for his sixth World Cup as if it were his first, Portugal coach Roberto Martinez has said. He called the 41-year-old star an “example and reference in football”.

Portugal is considered one of the favorites to win the title for the first time in this World Cup, with a talented new generation.

However, Ronaldo’s presence in the team is still controversial. Is he still a positive influence for the team, or has his effectiveness diminished over time?

According to statistics, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 143 goals for the national team, which is unparalleled in world football. However, he has failed to score in his last 9 matches in recent major tournaments.

Nevertheless, coach Roberto Martinez has full confidence in him. He said, ‘Ronaldo is an example and reference in football. For those who have developed a love for sports since childhood, it is great to follow Cristiano.

Martinez added, "Even though this is his sixth World Cup, it feels like his first World Cup within the team. In intensity, passion and readiness to lead."

He explained Ronaldo's role, saying, "Cristiano is a key finisher in the team's attack, who creates space for others with the right movements in the penalty box."

On the other hand, Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes said that when he was a child, he watched the 2004 Euro, when the 19-year-old Ronaldo took Portugal to the final. That experience inspired him.

Fernandes said, "We all grew up watching Cristiano since we were children. It is a matter of pride for us to be able to play in the same team with him. We are all supporting him and want to take Portugal as far as possible.
