Iran is not taking Donald Trump's threat to attack Iranian power plants lightly. On the contrary, Tehran has intensified its counter-threat in response to this US warning.

Iran's armed forces have issued a message warning that if there is any attack on the country's power infrastructure, they will completely close the strategically important 'Strait of Hormuz'. They have made it clear that this waterway will not be opened again until the damaged power plants are repaired.

The message from the Iranian forces also said that in response to the attack, they will not only be defensive, but will also directly target Israeli power plants, energy infrastructure and the information technology sector. In addition, it has been warned that Iran will also target power plants in the Middle East where companies have American shareholders and in countries where US military bases are located.

The armed forces' message was followed by a similar strong statement by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. The leader, who is currently very active in war management, made it clear that an attack on Iranian power plants would threaten energy and oil infrastructure throughout the region.

All in all, Iran's multi-pronged counter-threat to Trump's threat has pushed the energy and security situation in the Middle East into extreme uncertainty.
