Trump warns of major action against India

US President Donald Trump is angry with India over its purchase of Russian oil. He has always urged India to stay away from it. He recently told reporters on Air Force One that he had spoken to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the matter. Trump said that Modi had told him that he would limit the purchase of Russian oil. However, the US president has also announced that he will take strong action against India if he does not comply.
On Monday (October 20), Indian media outlet NDTV reported that Trump reiterated what he had said last week, saying, "I spoke to Indian Prime Minister Modi and he said that he will not make any deal with Moscow to buy Russian oil."
The report said that Donald Trump has threatened to impose "massive tariffs" on Indian products if New Delhi does not agree to his terms and stop importing oil from Russia.
Earlier, India rejected Trump's demand last week. Asked about India's stance, Trump said, "But if they want to say that, they'll just keep imposing huge tariffs and they don't want to do that."
Incidentally, in 2022, Western countries stopped buying oil from Russia and imposed sanctions on Moscow due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Then, as the price and share of Russian oil fell, India took advantage of that opportunity and became the largest buyer of Russian oil.
Washington has already imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian exports. Trump has repeatedly said that this tariff on India will remain in place unless New Delhi stops its unrestricted trade with Moscow. It will also increase.
