BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will return home by November, said Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the party's standing committee. He gave this information while talking to media personnel at his residence in Gulshan in the capital on Friday (October 24) afternoon.
Stating that BNP is in the process of forming a grand alliance for the upcoming elections, he said that political discussions are underway with the NCP. But we will have to wait and see whether BNP and NCP will join the alliance. However, there has been no formal discussion with the NCP about joining the alliance yet.
Regarding the approval of the amendment to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), he said, we had agreed on many issues in the RPO amendment. However, according to sub-section 20/1, if the parties joined the alliance, they could have elected under the symbol of another political party, and most parties agreed to change this. We were confident, but the way the RPO was passed, small parties would not be encouraged to join the alliance. In such a case, big leaders of small parties would not get a chance.
Alleging that the RPO amendment was passed unilaterally, he said, "BNP wants to see a multi-party, prosperous parliament. It is called for reconsideration of this (RPO amendment) for the sake of fair elections." At this time, BNP will send a letter objecting to the matter, said Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the party's standing committee.
