Seven migrants die in boat sinking off Turkish coast

A boat carrying migrants capsized in the Aegean Sea near the Turkish resort of Bodrum, killing seven people, AFP news agency reported from Istanbul on Friday (October 24), citing Turkish media.

The DHA news agency said one person swam to shore after the boat capsized and a search operation was underway for the other.

Bodrum is located near the Greek island of Kos. It is a popular route for those trying to reach European countries. However, a large number of people have died on the journey.

The UN International Organization for Migration said that about 1,400 migrants have died so far this year trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe.
