England have overtaken India to top the rankings after whitewashing Sri Lanka in the T20I series. The change in rankings came after they defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets on Saturday night.

India, who are in second place, also have the same rating points as England. Both teams have 269 rating points. India's total points from 64 matches are 17,201 and England's from 41 matches are 11,021. England has come out on top due to a slight lead in average rating per match.

England have regained the top spot for the second time this year. They had won the title by defeating India 4-0 in July. However, it didn't take long for India to snatch it away. India regained the top spot in the Zimbabwe series that same month. This time, the number one spot is back in England's hands.

England are in great form under Harry Brook, who has won 23 of the 26 T20Is since taking over as captain. Saturday's match was England's 15th consecutive win over Sri Lanka in T20Is.

On the other hand, India did not have a good start under new captain Shreyas Iyer. After he took over as captain, India lost the series against Ireland 2-0 and the five-match series against England 4-0.

In the updated T20 rankings, England and India are followed by Australia and New Zealand. Bangladesh is at number eight with 224 rating points.
