Trump returns early from vacation after missile attack on Riyadh

US President Donald Trump has reportedly returned to the White House from Camp David a day ahead of schedule, amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Samaa TV reported on Sunday (September 20).

The report said Trump had gone to Camp David, the presidential retreat in rural Maryland, for a weekend getaway. He was scheduled to stay there for an extra day, according to an earlier announcement. Even before Trump's tussle, tensions in the Middle East have risen again. The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen's Houthi rebels said the Iran-backed Houthis had fired a ballistic missile at the Saudi capital Riyadh early on Tuesday.

In addition, there were reports of a fire near the Saudi capital's international airport.

The US State Department and several embassies have issued a security alert for US citizens in the Middle East, warning that the situation could escalate rapidly.

The US State Department warned in a statement that "this military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly."

US citizens outside the Middle East have also been advised to 'seriously reconsider' travel to and through the region.

The warning refers to attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis in Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civilian airports.
