After a goalless but entertaining first half at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, all three goals came after the break as the Swiss sealed first place and a spot in the Round of 32.
Rubin and Johan Manzambi scored for Switzerland in the 46th and 57th minutes respectively, while Promise David pulled one back for Canada in the 76th minute.
Switzerland wasted no time after the restart, taking the lead just 39 seconds into the second half. Johan Manzambi delivered an excellent cross into the penalty area, where Rubin met it with a clinical right-footed finish into the bottom-left corner.
Having provided the assist for the opening goal, Manzambi later got on the scoresheet himself. In the 57th minute, Breel Embolo set up the midfielder, who calmly finished to double Switzerland's advantage and put the European side firmly in control.
Canada responded positively after conceding twice and managed to reduce the deficit in the 76th minute. Nathan Saliba's cross found Promise David in the centre of the box, and the forward struck a precise right-footed shot into the net to give the home crowd renewed hope.
The Canadians continued to push forward in search of an equaliser but were unable to break through the Swiss defence again. Switzerland held on comfortably to secure all three points and finish as group winners.
Despite the defeat, Canada had plenty to celebrate. Their qualification for the knockout phase marks a significant milestone in the country's World Cup history, as they progressed beyond the group stage for the first time.
Switzerland, meanwhile, advanced as group champions and will head into the Round of 32 full of confidence after finishing the group stage strongly. Both teams now turn their attention to the knockout rounds, where the margin for error becomes even smaller.
