All three goals came in the second half at Mexico City, where Mateo Chavez, Julian Quinones and Alvaro Fidalgo found the net to seal another dominant performance for the hosts. The defeat ended the Czech Republic's hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.

The visitors had a rare opportunity in the opening half when Denis Visinsky sent an effort narrowly wide of the post. However, clear-cut chances were scarce in a largely uneventful first period.

Having already secured top spot in the group before kickoff, Mexico made several changes to their starting lineup. Despite enjoying the majority of possession, the hosts had to wait until the 36th minute for their first shot on target, when Israel Reyes' overhead kick from the edge of the box drifted just wide.

Long-range efforts from David Dodera and Quinones also failed to trouble the scoreboard, while Czech goalkeeper Matej Kovar produced the first save of the match by denying Jorge Sanchez.

Mexico emerged a different side after the break and quickly took control of the contest. The hosts struck twice within six minutes before the hour mark, effectively ending any hopes of a Czech comeback.

With the result all but secured, Mexico head coach gave veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, now 40, the opportunity to feature in what is his fourth World Cup appearance. The experienced shot-stopper received a warm reception from the home crowd.

Alvaro Fidalgo added a third goal deep into stoppage time to complete the scoring and underline Mexico's superiority.

The victory means Mexico finish the group stage with a flawless nine points from three matches. As Group A winners, they will face one of the tournament's best third-placed teams in the Round of 32 on July 1, as they continue their pursuit of a memorable World Cup campaign on home soil.
