Bangladesh was once the most successful team in ODI cricket. However, recently, the Tigers have been stuck in a losing streak in this format. The red-green team left the field after losing 11 of the last 12 ODIs. Mehedi Hasan Miraj's team has finally returned to winning ways after standing on the edge of a cliff.
Bangladesh defeated the West Indies by 74 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series at the 'Home of Cricket' Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday (October 18). Chasing a modest target of 208 runs set by the Tigers, the West Indies were bowled out for 133 runs in 39 overs.
Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain made a big contribution to Bangladesh's victory. He also won the Man of the Match award by taking 6 wickets for 35 runs in 9 overs in the match. This is the best in his career in ODI cricket. This is also the best bowling figure by any Bangladeshi spinner in ODIs.
The 23-year-old Rishad was very happy to contribute to the team's victory. While accepting the award at the end of the match, the legspinner said, 'Alhamdulillah, I was able to contribute to the team. Alhamdulillah for everything. I didn't think like that. I thought about staying within my own process.'
Rishad also said about his goal in the match, 'They were batting beautifully. I was trying not to get frustrated, to be patient, to use the opportunity when it came. All 11 of us believed that we could make a comeback at any moment. Credit to everyone in the XI.'
The second ODI of the series will be played at the same venue on Tuesday (October 21). Bangladesh will want to win that match and clinch the series.
