Finally, Bangladesh, led by ODI captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz, tasted series victory. The Tigers defeated the West Indies by a huge margin of 179 runs in the final series-deciding ODI on Thursday (October 23) to win the series 2-1. Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain led the way with the ball, taking 12 wickets alone.
With this performance, Rishad Hossain broke the old records of Afghanistan star Rashid Khan and Bangladesh's Arafat Sunny and created new history. Rishad Hossain's bowling performance in this series against the West Indies was incredible. With a total of 12 wickets in the three-match ODI series, he set the world record for the highest wicket-taker as a spinner. Until now, this record was held by Rashid Khan, who took 11 wickets in 3 matches against Zimbabwe in 2018. Rishad surpassed him by taking 12 wickets.
Rishad Hossain not only set a world record but also a new record for the country. He also broke Arafat Sunny's record for the most wickets taken by a spinner in a three-match ODI series for Bangladesh. Arafat Sunny was at the top with 10 wickets against Zimbabwe in 2014, but Rishad surpassed him this time.
In the first ODI against the West Indies, Rishad single-handedly took 6 wickets and brought the team a huge victory. Despite taking 3 wickets in the next match, the team could not win. However, today, he took 3 more wickets in the last match and secured the series win, making himself a place in the pages of cricket history. His 12-wicket performance laid the foundation for Bangladesh's series win.
