Very few people usually take neck pain seriously. Medically, neck pain is characterized by discomfort in the neck region. Which is made up of vertebrae, muscles, tendons and ligaments. The cervical spine, which consists of the neck and upper spine, plays an important role in supporting and helping the head move. NDTV has published a report on the causes and solutions of neck pain. So let's know about it.
Causes of neck pain:
Aging: With age, pain can occur due to abnormal wear and tear of muscles. Neck pain can also be caused by degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis (wear and tear of the cartilage in the joints) and spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal).
Muscle strain: Abnormal posture, staring at a digital device for a long time, or sleeping in an uncomfortable position can cause strain on the neck muscles. This can also cause pain.
Overexertion: Sometimes, excessive strain causes the neck muscles to tighten. This can cause neck pain and stiffness.
Injury: Neck pain can be caused by a car accident or other injury. Such injuries can damage the muscles, ligaments, discs, spinal joints, or nerve roots, and can cause severe neck pain.
Ways to protect yourself from neck pain:
Usually, neck pain can be relieved on its own. Especially if it is not severe or persistent. In this case, some home remedies are highlighted below.
Rest: The pain can be severe, you should reduce such activities and take the necessary rest to reduce neck pain.
Cold and hot therapy: Initially, ice packs can reduce inflammation. If this does not work, then you can take a hot water bath. This will relax the tense muscles.
Gentle stretching and exercise: Mild stretching can relieve muscle tension. Strengthening exercises for the neck and upper back will help and reduce the risk of future pain.
Changing posture: Maintain good posture while sitting and using digital devices. Always ensure that your workplace does not cause physical harm. This will relieve neck and back pain.
Maintaining hydration and nutrition: Staying hydrated and eating a balanced diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods will help relieve pain and stiffness. Overall health will improve.
Making pillows and bedding comfortable: Pillows and bedding play a very important role in improving neck alignment while sleeping. If the pillows and bedding are not comfortable, change them. This may be the reason why your neck pain is getting worse.
