Will the dazzling success of the pink world stop this time? 'Barbie 2', the sequel to the movie 'Barbie' that took the world by storm after its release in 2023, is now facing uncertainty. Due to tension over salary and the contract not being finalized, uncertainty has begun about the future of the much-awaited movie.
The first 'Barbie' directed by Greta Gerwig became the highest-grossing movie in Warner Bros. history, earning more than $ 1.4 billion worldwide. After this success, plans for a sequel began with Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Gerwig and screenwriter Noah Baumbach. But the three-year contract negotiations have not yet seen the light of day.
According to reports, Warner Bros. has made more than six offers in the last three years. The latest offer is being called one of the largest offers made by a production team and stars in the studio's history. But that didn't melt the ice. The main point of contention is the remuneration structure, especially the star and producer's share of the movie business.
Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig earned a huge amount of money from the first installment of 'Barbie'. It is said that they are demanding a significant increase in their remuneration this time too. On the other hand, Ryan Gosling is reportedly asking for a remuneration of about $ 20 million to return to the role of 'Ken'. However, it is also said that they are not seeking a revenue-sharing agreement before the studio withdraws its investment for the sequel.
The deal is not only Warner Bros., but also toy maker Mattel is in trouble. After the success of 'Barbie', the company saw new possibilities in the movie business. But if a new agreement is not reached within a certain period, the rights to use the 'Barbie' character may return to Mattel. In that case, the entire franchise will have to be started anew, not based on the world created by Gerwig. Gerwig and Baumbach have reportedly already developed a story idea for a sequel, but are reluctant to make it public until a deal is signed.
