Trump releases map claiming Strait of Hormuz as US territory

US President Donald Trump has posted a photo of a map of the Strait of Hormuz on his own social media platform Truth Social. The caption of the photo reads ‘New US territory’.

The post is believed to be a new manifestation of his earlier threat to officially declare the Strait of Hormuz as US territory after Iran’s ‘surrender’ last week.

According to analysts, Trump’s such comments and campaign regarding this very important maritime route in the Middle East could further increase the current geopolitical tensions. Since the Strait of Hormuz is a very important route for global oil trade, Trump’s position has sparked new discussions in the international arena.
