The incident of drowning eight puppies in a pond in Ishwardi, Pabna, is now a national sensation. People from different classes and professions are criticizing and discussing this on social media. Even netizens have been seen expressing anger. The police have already arrested the accused in this incident. Now, popular model and actress Piya Jannatul has reacted strongly to this.

On Wednesday (December 3), Piya Jannatul reacted in a post on her social media verified Facebook page. There, she wrote, 'The idea that you can do whatever you want just because you are the wife of a government employee is wrong, today's arrest is clear proof of that. Putting eight innocent puppies in a bag and throwing them into a pond is not only cruel, it is our shame as human beings.’

Pia Jannatul wrote, ‘Those who think that animals cannot speak, so they can do whatever they want to them, be careful from now on. The people of this country will no longer remain silent about the law as before. The punishment will be stricter, more severe.’

She also wrote, ‘Before hurting animals, think that they too have lives and pain. The show of force on helpless animals is over, now is the time for accountability.’

Earlier, on December 1, the puppies were killed in the Ishwardi Upazila Parishad premises. In this incident, the finger was pointed at Nishi Rahman, the wife of Hasanur Rahman, an officer of the Upazila Small Farmers Foundation. Then, Upazila Livestock Officer Aklima Khatun filed a case under Section 429 of the Penal Code (1860).
