Bollywood's popular star couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan. The couple got married in 2007. Although there have been many rumors about their separation recently, the couple has always been reluctant to bring their personal lives to the public. Although there has been no official comment on the matter, they expressed their views on marriage and separation on Oprah Winfrey's talk show in 2009.
According to the Indian Express report, in that special interview given to the host Oprah, they discussed various stories about their careers, personal lives and marriage. Abhishek told how he proposed to Aishwarya. He said, during the shooting in New York, I used to stand on the balcony of the hotel, wondering when I would be able to be with her. Later, when I took her to the same balcony, she proposed to me.
Oprah showed a video of the media chaos on their wedding day and wanted to know why Indian weddings are so grand. Abhishek said, Indians love to celebrate, so the wedding also lasts for a few days. Oprah jokingly said, after so many arrangements, it must be difficult to break up! Aishwarya immediately replied, we don't let that thought enter our mind.
Oprah later wanted to know, what is the Indian culture like about living with in-laws even after marriage. Hearing the question, Abhishek countered by asking, does Oprah live with her parents? Hearing no, she said, then how does that work for you, i.e. she highlighted the differences in the Indian family system.
Aishwarya's humorous answer had also been discussed before. In 2005, on the David Letterman show, in response to a question about Indians living with their parents, she said, in India, living with parents is very normal, because we don't have to make an appointment to meet our parents for dinner.
Incidentally, Aishwarya and Abhishek first worked together in the movie 'Dhai Akshar Prem Ke' which was released in 2000. After that, the pair worked in some more movies. They got married in a private ceremony at the Bachchan family's 'Prateeksha' residence in Mumbai on April 20, 2007. The couple is currently seen in front of the camera with their only daughter Aaradhya.
