China has discovered its largest single gold deposit since 1949. The country's Ministry of Natural Resources said on Friday that the Dadonggo gold mine in northeastern Liaoning province has 1,444.49 tons of gold reserves.
The state-run Global Times reported that the mine's economic feasibility study has also been completed, paving the way for the start of development work.
The Dadonggo mine is classified as a super-large open-pit mine. Officials said that there are about 2.586 billion tons of ore in the area above 720 meters above sea level. Each ton of ore can yield an average of 0.56 grams of gold.
According to the report, it was possible to identify this huge gold deposit in just 15 months of exploration. This rapid exploration method could be considered a new model for short-term and high-quality mineral exploration in the future.
