US increases garment purchases from Bangladesh

According to data from the US government agency 'Office of Textiles and Apparel' (OTEXA), the volume of garment imports to the US from various countries of the world decreased by 5.30 percent from 2015 to 2024.
However, the volume of garment imports from Bangladesh to the US increased by 26.62 percent during the same period. Comparatively, exports from Bangladesh's competitor China decreased by 18.36 percent. Exports from Vietnam and India increased by 32.96 and 34.13 percent respectively. Indonesia's exports decreased by 19.82 percent and Cambodia's exports increased by 10.78 percent. BSS reported.
Notably, Bangladesh's import volume increased by 26.62 percent. In terms of unit value, imports from the US decreased by 1.71 percent. Unit values of China and India decreased by 33.80 and 4.56 percent respectively.
On the other hand, the unit price of Vietnam and Indonesia increased by 6.64 and 7.38 percent respectively, and the unit price of Cambodia increased by 38.31 percent.
In Bangladesh, it increased by 7.30 percent. Regarding the future, industry stakeholders say that Bangladesh has currently been able to maintain a unit price that is close to the global average price of the United States.
