The Olive Market located at Debdaru Tola in Debiganj, Panchagarh is bustling throughout the season. Thousands of small traders in the area earn a living by collecting olives from farmers' gardens and selling them to traders. Olives imported from this largest olive market in the country are going to different parts of the country. Local farmers are getting good prices due to the demand due to their size, quality and quality.

Meanwhile, the area of ​​olive gardens is also increasing every year in the area due to demand and profitability. Traders from different parts of the country buy orchards before the season starts by paying advance deposits from the orchard owners. When the fruits ripen, they themselves pick the fruits from the orchards and take them to their stores. As a result, there is no hassle for the farmers of the area.

This Debdaru Tala haat in Debiganj runs from September to December. An average of 2.5 million taka of olives is sold here every day. Each kg of olives is sold for 20 to 40 taka per kg, depending on the type.

Traders say that 50 to 80 tons of olives are bought and sold from Debiganj every day. About a thousand small traders buy olives and sell them to traders from outside. Since these products are transported by train and road, traders come from different parts of the country to buy olives.

Olives have started coming to the market since the beginning of Ashwin and will continue until the entire month of Paush and Magh. Due to the profitability and marketing facilities, the area of ​​​​the orchards is increasing, and as a result, many unemployed people from Debiganj and the surrounding areas have been created employment opportunities in this olive haat.

Amirul Islam, an olive gardener from Debiganj area, said that he has been cultivating olives and making marketable varieties for about 15 years. The money he earns by selling olives during the season every year without any risk or maintenance covers his annual expenses. People from the country's big and famous olive companies give him advance money to buy quality olives. They have to supply them with olives when the season comes.

Mominul Haque, who came to buy olives from Chuadanga, said that there is a lot of demand in the market because the olives from this area are good in size and taste. He buys olives from Debiganj throughout the season and sells them in different parts of the country.

Deputy Director of the District Agricultural Extension Department Md. Abdul Matin said that there are numerous small and large olive gardens in Debiganj. More new olive gardens have been established. Due to the demand for it in different areas of the country and the good price, the tendency to establish gardens is increasing among the farmers in the area. Despite the low rainfall this year, there has been some disruption to the crop. Despite this, farmers will see unexpected profits.
