Congress Seva Dal worker Bidyut Bhushan Das (74) got into trouble for singing the song 'My Golden Bangla, I love you'. The controversy started after the video went viral on social media.
According to a report in The Indian Express on Thursday, the video was also shared by some ministers and the state unit of the BJP. They alleged that Bidyut Bhushan sang the national anthem of Bangladesh.
However, Bidyut says that he has been singing the song from his heart since childhood. He is surprised and worried that the controversy has started.
The Congress Seva Dal is the volunteer organization of the Trinamool Congress. Bidyut Bhushan sang the song at an event in Assam's Sribhumi district.
In response, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday that he has ordered the police to take action against the Sribhumi District Congress Committee.
Making a complaint against the Congress, Bidyut Sharma said that the party performed the national anthem of Bangladesh instead of the national anthem of India. Which is disrespectful to India. Many Bangladeshis claim the northeastern part of India as theirs. This is also a kind of support for that claim.
However, Vidyut Bhushan said that he was invited to a meeting of the Congress Seva Dal's extended committee in a village about 18 kilometers from Sribhumi town. He is an ordinary Congress worker, working in the Seva Dal for more than fifty years. Like all meetings, this meeting also began with 'Vande Mataram' and ended with the national anthem of India.
Vidyut Bhushan also said, 'When I am asked to deliver a speech, I mention the name of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore. And then the song comes to my mind. I just utter the line, then continue my speech. I have paid tribute to the world poet and Bengal.'
The Indian Express wrote that the present Sribhumi (earlier named Karimganj) was once part of Sylhet in Bangladesh. Although the main part of Sylhet was included in East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh) during the partition in 1947, this region remained with India.
