Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has reiterated his commitment to organize a free, fair, transparent and festive 13th National Parliament election in the first half of February next year. Since then, BNP's election-focused preparations have been in full swing. The party's high command has a list of potential single candidates for about 70 percent of the seats. BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman has set the eligibility criteria for selecting candidates.
BNP will immediately take organizational action against anyone who acts outside the party's decision or violates party discipline. Such a warning has already been given to the nomination candidates.
It is learned that the constituency-based candidate screening process is almost over. The party is giving importance to determining single candidates. If everything goes well, BNP will give the 'green signal' to single candidates in the middle of this month. Responsible leaders have already held meetings with the nomination candidates for each seat. The party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman is also talking to potential candidates and top leaders of the relevant divisions, districts, and upazilas. At the same time, more detailed inquiries are being made about the candidates who are leading in the survey.
The list of potential single candidates for about 70 percent of the seats is with the party's high command. Meanwhile, BNP wants to hold elections with allies who are in simultaneous movements. For this, the party will give up seats. All together, the allies want more than a hundred seats. In this situation, lists of potential candidates have been asked from allied parties. Several parties and alliances have given lists. This information was learned after talking to several top policymakers of BNP.
Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir returned home from the United States on Friday. He said, "We are preparing for the elections as instructed by our leader Tarique Rahman."
BNP National Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain told Jugantor that BNP is fully prepared for the next elections. Lists of single candidates are being prepared. Discussions are also underway on when the green signal will be given to potential candidates. Our acting chairman Tarique Rahman and policymakers will decide on this soon.
Although another standing committee member of the party, Salahuddin Ahmed, said that we will soon give the green signal to the seat-based single candidate to work in the field. But that is not final. We will give the final nomination through the parliamentary board after the schedule is announced.
He also said that we have multiple qualified candidates in each seat. In many seats, we have five, seven and ten qualified candidates. So we have to look at the issue of selecting candidates through a systematic political process.
After investigating, it is known that the election is being held within the time frame announced by the chief advisor. That is how BNP is preparing. The work of arranging the field at the polling stations is going on. Preparations to finalize at least 70 percent of the 300 seats before the schedule is announced are almost in the final stage. The signal for them to enter the field will be given in mid-October. The acting chairman of BNP has conducted at least 5 surveys so far to finalize the candidates for the upcoming elections.
These surveys were conducted internationally, through various government and private organizations, the party's organizational team and the media. In addition, the survey was conducted across the country with 3 people from the BNP's Gulshan office and 2 representatives from a national daily.
The names of multiple potential candidates in each constituency were mentioned in the 'criteria' set by the acting chairman of BNP (those who have sacrificed in the movement and struggle, passed the test of honesty, are popular in the area and have a clean image). The responsible leaders of the party recently held a meeting with them at the Gulshan office. Everyone was instructed to remain united in the interests of the party, including strengthening the party's organizational strength at the field level and preparing for the elections. Tarique Rahman urged everyone to work for the party's nominee in the election field. At the same time, he also gave a strong message.
Talking to several leaders at the policy-making level of BNP, it was learned that the green signal will be given to potential individual candidates informally first. They will campaign at the field level. Others who are expecting nominations in the seats will also work for the candidates who have received the green signal. They will be kept under strict surveillance during this time. If everything is in order, the candidature will be finalized through the party's parliamentary board after the announcement of the schedule.
