Will the anger of the younger generation make it to the ballot box this time? As the question grows louder, India's ruling BJP is entering the fray to win the hearts of Gen Z. The party has decided to increase direct communication with the new generation of voters ahead of the multiple assembly elections in 2027. The BJP has also formed a special team to understand the concerns, expectations and anger of Gen Z.
The decision was taken at the first meeting of the new BJP national office bearers on Saturday. The special team formed under the leadership of party national president Nitin Nabin includes party general secretaries Vinod Tawde and Smriti Irani, Gujarat minister Harsh Sanghvi and Chhattisgarh minister OP Chowdhury, among others.
According to party sources, this special outreach program will be launched keeping in mind Gen-G, the new generation born between 1997 and 2012. The BJP will try to find out directly from them what the problems of the youth are, what their expectations are, and what their views are on education, jobs, future, and the government system.
The youth will also be given the opportunity to directly exchange views with BJP leaders. Political observers believe that the issue is significant. Because in the last few months, several movements led by youth in India have created a stir in political circles. The anger of a section of Gen-Z over education, jobs, examination system and administrative transparency has come to the fore. The movement centered on the Cockroach Janata Party has also brought this dissatisfaction of the young generation into the discussion of national politics. International analysis has also seen this movement as a new type of political challenge for the BJP government. In this situation, there are indications of a change in BJP's strategy ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
Assembly elections are due next year in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Himachal Pradesh. The BJP is currently in power in four of these seven states. Party national president Nitin Nabin on Sunday held a meeting with the new office bearers and stressed on strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level and increasing connectivity with young voters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a long meeting with the party's 67 new national office bearers at the BJP meeting on Saturday. Party sources claim that the Prime Minister also emphasized on strengthening the organization and reaching out to the youth.
In other words, the BJP is not only seeing the anger of Gen Z as a matter of movement, but also as an electoral politics. The answer to how successful the party is in winning the hearts of young voters will be found in the upcoming assembly elections. But for now, it is clear that the BJP is no longer ignoring the anger of Gen Z; rather, the party is entering the field to find the source of that anger and reach out to them.
