Bangladesh's star pacer Shariful Islam has set a record after 140 years against Australia. He set a unique record by trapping Cameron Green in the LBW trap. Shariful holds the record for taking the most wickets in an innings for Bangladesh in Test cricket, 7.
Shariful Islam has taken the throne that former pacer Shahadat Hossain Rajib occupied after 18 years with his 6-27 figures in 2008. He has set a rare record after 140 years.
It may seem unbelievable. A record that has remained untouchable for so many years! Hundreds of famous bowlers have come and gone, but in the last 40 years, Shariful Islam of Bangladesh has achieved a record that no bowler has been able to achieve.
Shariful Islam took 7 wickets for 3 maidens and 48 runs in 15 overs. He also became the first left-arm pacer to take 7 wickets against Australia since 1886. The last time, 140 years ago, England's Dick Barlow took 7 wickets as a left-arm pacer against the Aussies in Manchester in 1886.
In total, there are four left-arm pacers who have taken seven wickets against Australia. Two of these were by Dick Barlow. Before 1886, Dick Barlow had taken seven wickets in an innings against Australia once more, in 1883, at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Even before that, the first left-arm pacer to take 7 wickets against Australia was Thomas Emmett. He achieved this feat at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 1879. And Shariful Islam became the fourth pacer to take 7 wickets against Australia as a left-arm pacer after 140 years.
