The US has opened a new naval corridor to secretly transport fuel oil through the Strait of Hormuz, the news agency Axios reported. According to relevant sources, 10 million barrels of oil are being sent to the world market every day in this operation.
The report said that as part of this operation that has been going on for the past few weeks, 15 to 20 oil tankers have already safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz through the southern channel of Oman's coast. Sources claim that about 10 million barrels of oil are currently being supplied through this route every day, which is about half the amount before the war.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (August 19), US President Donald Trump said, "The Strait of Hormuz is now open. There are a lot of ships moving." He said that oil prices have started to fall again. Where the price of oil was said to reach $ 350 per barrel, today it has fallen to $ 84 to $ 85.
He said, hinting at the waning importance of the strait in the future, “People have found alternative routes and a record number of pipelines are being built. We are able to send a lot of oil out.”
Meanwhile, initial and recent data on shipping shows a slowdown in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Many shipping companies are still taking a cautious stance due to the fear of attacks on shipping.
According to the shipping monitoring company ‘Kepler’, only six commercial ships passed through the strait on Tuesday, which is lower than the daily average of 11 on the previous day and 9 on the previous 10 days.
However, Kepler noted that many tankers may have turned off their transponders to avoid detection, which is not included in these statistics. Iran claims that the strait is closed, but Trump denies this and insists that traffic is normal.
