India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah has strongly attacked former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the state government’s cooperation in strengthening border security. He alleged that despite repeated requests to the previous government to provide land for border security, there was no response. However, he claimed that the situation has changed after the change of government.

Amit Shah made these remarks at a function at the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) border headquarters in Ranidanga, Siliguri on Friday (August 21).

He said that the state government’s cooperation in important matters like border security is very important. He claimed that earlier, land had to be waited for a long time for border security. Now, the state government’s approval comes even before sending a letter from the Center.

Amit Shah’s speech also raised the issue of security of the strategically important Siliguri corridor. He said that 560 acres of land were required to further strengthen this important corridor connecting the northeastern region with the Indian mainland.

Amit Shah alleged that Mamata Banerjee's government did not provide this land for a long time. However, he claimed that the necessary land was approved after the change of government.

Shah thanked the current Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari for this. At the same time, he also gave importance to the Chief Minister's presence at Friday's event.

Shah also commented that the Chief Minister of the state was not present at various government and security forces events during Mamata Banerjee's time. According to him, this time the Chief Minister herself was present at the event, so it is worth mentioning this issue.

Along with border security, the issue of nationalism and the country's tradition also came up in Shah's speech. He raised the issue of the full performance of the song 'Vande Mataram'.

Shah claimed that the song had not been performed in its entirety for a long time after independence. Although the song was sung in Parliament, many like him regretted that it was not performed in its entirety.

He claimed that 'Vande Mataram' was performed in its entirety for the first time at the 80th Independence Day event. He also commented that this has re-established the song's proper status.

Shah said that as a result, the new generation will be able to better understand the nationalist thoughts and contributions of Rishi Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.
