13,250 crore taka. For the first time in a tennis tournament, the prize money has crossed the 100 crore mark. A total of 108 million US dollars will be awarded in the 2026 US Open. In Bangladeshi currency, which is about 13,250 crore taka. This is the highest prize money in the history of tennis, let alone a Grand Slam.
The previous record was held by the US Open. The prize money of 90 million dollars was awarded in the 2025 edition. This time, the prize money has increased by 20 percent compared to last year.
When compared to the prize money of the last editions of the other three Grand Slams of tennis, the gap between the US Open and the other three is clear. The total prize money in the 2026 edition of the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, was 111.5 million Australian dollars.
The prize money of the French Open or Roland Garros was 61.7 million 23 thousand euros. And the total prize money at the last Wimbledon was 64.2 million pounds. Although all are records in their respective currencies, the US Open's new $108 million fund is the largest in US dollars.
This time, the men's and women's singles champions at the US Open will receive $5.5 million each. That's 10 percent more than last year. In 2025, the champions were given $5 million each—also the highest in tennis history at the time. This time, players who lose in the first round will also receive $140,000, which is $30,000 or about 27 percent more than last year's $110,000.
There was also pressure from the players behind this record increase in prize money. For a long time, top players have been demanding that a larger portion of the income of the Grand Slams be given as prize money. They demand that at least 16 percent of the income of each Grand Slam be given as prize money and that rate should be increased to 22 percent by 2030.
It is not yet certain whether the US Open has reached that goal this time. Because the US Tennis Association (USTA) has not yet released its full financial accounts for 2025.
Another aspect of the players' demands has also gained importance this time. The USTA has launched a $2 million 'Player Support Program', the money of which will be spent on the welfare of the players. In addition, the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open have jointly announced the formation of the 'Grand Slam Player Advisory Council'. One of their main demands was to increase the representation of the players in important decisions related to the Grand Slam.
This year's US Open will start on August 30.
